At last!
The sun shines the day I become a tourist!
Now, that's more like it!
Thank-you.

Had a really nice banquet meal for 7pounds 85 pence at an Indian restaurant to-day too.
It was very nice...I only have had Indian twice before and both on the Goldie, but they weren't very nice at all!

This was an all you could eat...(and it was not like the plate in Prague either..all you can eat and they put the 3 courses on one plate and that was that!)
This was a true smorgasbord...lots of real nice Indian food, plus lovely fresh salad and I tried every dish. A spoon of each...but the lentil soup was the best!

Have to cut back on my expenses here now as it's coming up to the last 10 days in GBPound areas, so I have to make sure I have enough left so I don't have to draw more out. The banks here charge 7 Ausd and my bank charges $5...so to get out a last 20 pounds will be a bad investment!
I can always use my Debit card, but the bus and train need coins for trips...like in USA, so at least I'm aware.

Here are a few shots from last night when I went for a walk at 4-6pm...and then some from to-day's little trip to the Royal Mile...the tourist area and old town historical areas.
Have to get to the Royal Yatch Britania yet, go to see cats in the next few days and visit the Edinburgh castle and i'm done for here.
I did want to go to Airth castle, just near here, for 2 nights, but it seems it's all booked out on the 20 pounds special they had...never mind. I'm almost castled out as it is! Then I did want to visit Mum's folks area of Ben Nevis, but it's too much just now.

I've finally worked out how to do these long trips and get all your bucket things done in good time, with little stress. The answer is...Stay somewhere for a few weeks, leave all your gear there, schedule your clients work ahead, then go somewhere special, do the tourist thing and go back. Rise and repeat!

For you Deb...a tree made out of pencils! Amazing window dressers at this shop...
Picture
The modern international hostel kitchen bench! Check out the adapters...
Picture
Inside a hostel is warm...This mum of 2 young pre-school kids, left France to try her luck here for a job. Her family is back in France somewhere.
Picture
A nice kilt shop I found last night on my wanders...
Picture
The land of chimney pots...
Picture
Another awesome building...Sits atop a rise and looks as tho' it has it's arms outstretched...I had to put my camera thru the fence rails around the grounds to try and get in between the plants to get a shot. I later found out I was going the wrong way and could actually get inside. It's the Museum now. Don't know what it was before that...but I want it! It's the most magnificent imposing building I have ever seen and it brought tears to my eyes... and this is only part of it. Will go back in the sunshine as this was after 5pm yesterday...
Picture
Beautifully proportioned too...
Picture
Saturday, 10am. setting off for a touristy day. Just outside our hostel, with the massive St Mary's cathedral in the background. Notice ...more chimney pots...Lots of Vacancy signs, To Let etc...
Picture
No matter where you look there is a spooky spire sticking up somewhere...
Picture
The new fast rail system right thru' the middle of town is disrupting everything and is hard to leave out of your pics! More chimney pots and a curved building with the typical black mould look!
Picture
More chimney pots...there are a lot of these curved streets of homes, apartments etc on both sides of a road up the middle of them...It makes a nice break from straight streets and gives the properties a bit of space from the road noises...Even tho' the road itself is straight down the middle of them. They sort of build a circle of houses and let a road run right thru the middle.
Picture
Nowhere else are the buildings as weird and castle like as here in Edinburgh...Dark grey stone.
Picture
Similar in only some respects to London by being solid, big, chunky buildings, but a different colour stone and more castle like...
Picture
Thought this window add space was innovative and novel...
Picture
Cats is on here so I will go after the week-end. I wanted to see it and it's here...how cool is that? Another ALW musical...
Picture
3.50 a bunch...nice and pretty pastels for spring...
Picture
The main shopping street, Princes street...full of people, no matter the weather or day!
Picture
Lots of empty shops along here too...amidst the chimney pots too, of course!
Picture
The centre of the main street...lots of empty shops here for rent too...
Picture
The Bagpipes are played all over the streets here and his guy was playing "Advance Australia Fair" and Waltzing Matilda"
Picture
Apparently there's some big footy matches on this weekend and people are flocking here in droves...and in dress up suits too!
Picture
It took a minute to realize these guys were not street mimes!
Picture
More of them coming out of the underground train station. There are huge works going on here. The main train station is being extended, the light rail (like the tram system in Prague) and a bunch of other capital works are underway to get the area going again.
Picture
Just walking a few miles around the place looking for the Royal Mile tourist area.
Picture
Up a set of spooky streets and even tho the sun is out...it is eerily spooky!
Picture
Up near the end of the street, it curves around into the sunshine...with more chimney pots and those funny nobbly things on top of the buildings here...
Picture
They seem to leave the top levels of the buildings alone and decorate the bottom parts any old which way they like. It's quite quaint really.
Picture
This is the Royal Mile street...
Picture
Love this sign...
Picture
More curved streets with castle type buildings on every corner....
Picture
This 10 yr old boy played so well...great breath control. People were filling his 'beg-box" with money!
Picture
Thought this might be the ladies loos...
Picture
It's rather grand, isn't it?
Picture
Found a nice little cafe/restaurant down this lane...but it was packed...Breakfasts for 2pounds 50 p etc. Real home made stuff too...
Picture
Further in, under the arches I went, in search of it...
Picture
Here I am in the back garden...but the inside part is in that door to the left you can just see under the blue canopy...
Picture
All the buildings are covered in really black mould or sooty stuff, making the whole city bleak and spooky looking. I'd love to get a gurney battalion of people and spray clean them all. They'd look more magnificent!
Picture
One of the Free Walking tours...in Spanish here, pointing out the sights...
Picture
One of the many museums here...
Picture
The front of the cathedral from a few shots back...
Picture
Spires and curved end buildings...
Picture
Lots of side streets here...
Picture
More spires...
Picture
This is a real traditional wedding dress that goes with a full kilted wedding......
Picture
Up close to Edinburgh Castle. Will walk up there tomorrow and take some shots. This is where the annual Edinburgh Tattoo takes place...
Picture
Heading back into the main Princes Street now, via a trip under the bridge and a trip to the train stn to ask about the times the train runs from Warrington to Liverpool on Thursday, for Phantom. I bought the 2 return tickets for 6 pounds...a saving of well over 100 pounds, but they don't go right into Liverpool, Lime street, where the theatre is. So, the guy said it's only a 30 min or so trip and runs often and should cost no more than a tenner!
Picture
What a pretty bridge!
Picture
Not sure if this building is the old treasury building or not, from the side...
Well, that's it!
My batteries went flat, as I haven't used the camera in almost a week and clean forgot about it!

Spend to-day ...8pounds for lunch and 2 pounds for a House and Garden magazine to read!.

Dorm buddies...full house for the footy...they are all sitting in the common room now, shouting and yelling over the footy!

Weather...3C...Sunny, tried to snow this morning, nice in the sunshine, but get out the gloves weather again!

Have to check out the tickets for CATS, then the Royal Yacht Britannia now...

Bye,
M
xxxx

Thanks Allen.
Am getting a bit sad to be leaving the lovely cold weather and snow of the past 4 months, with the trip about to come to a close soon...
Thanks for following too.
Kindest,
Mary
